Linda Burkett

Linda Patricia Burkett, 70, Topeka, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at a local hospital.  Linda was born October 12, 1942 in Lemon Grove, CA, the daughter of Hershel and Mary (Edgar) Shuman.  She grew up in Lancaster, CA.  She was employed in retail sales for May Company of California and Montgomery Wards.  She sold Prudential insurance and later was employed by USD-501 as a Manager in the cafeteria and Paraprofessional at Topeka High School.  She retired in 2010.  She attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a member of ALANON.  As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren s activities and spending time with them.  Linda married Gary Burkett on October 1, 1965 in San Diego, CA.  He survives.  Other survivors include daughters, Debbie (Joe) Beuerlein, Mary Beth (Tim) Nesbitt, Kim (Trent) Vausbinder; sons, David (Jandi) Burkett, Marvin (Angie) Burkett, all of Topeka; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; and sister, JoAnn Peterson, Gainesville, FL.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nancy Monaghan; and son, Gary Dean Burkett, Jr.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.  Private family inurnment will be at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 2016 North Amidon Avenue, Wichita, KS 67203  To leave a special message for the family online, visit
