Memorial services for Mrs. Joy J. Camp, 72, of Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at First Christian Church, 3400 Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, LA. 

Joy Camp's death occurred Thursday, July 5, 2012, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX.  

She recently retired as the regional social worker for the State of Louisiana Region 8 Office of Public Health. Part of her responsibilities included working with Children's Special Health Services.  She coordinated behavioral health services in the local OPH Medical Special Needs Shelter during Hurricane Katrina.

Early in her career, Mrs. Camp worked as a public school teacher in Louisiana and Texas.  Her scholastic achievements included graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, graduating magna cum laude from Louisiana College, and receiving top honors when she earned her master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.  She always had a great love for children, art, literature, and music.  She was a member of the Masterworks Chorus for several years.  She led by example and taught her children to be kind and accepting of others, and to find the positive in any given situation.  Joy was a sweet presence, and impacted the lives of everyone she touched in a beautiful way. 

Mrs. Camp was preceded in death by her husband, Jon G. Camp; her father, Lee Roy Joyner; and her brothers, Joe and Keith. 

Survivors include her sons, Jon Tyran Camp of Panama City, FL and Joffry Lee Camp and wife Julia of Milton, FL; daughter, Margette Reid and husband Michael of Denton, TX; grandchildren, Charles Michael Reid and Elizabeth Joy Reid of Denton, TX; mother, Monia Joyner of Mangham, LA; brother, Dr. Lee Roy Joyner of Bogalusa, LA; sister, Mary Margaret Barclift of St. Louis, MO; and sister-in-law, Tezalee Crump and husband J.W. of Ball, LA. 

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, July 9, 2012, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA.
