James P Or Jim Owen Jr, 87

James P. "Jim" Owen Jr. of Springfield died Feb. 24 of age-related causes.  He was 87.  A private family service is planned.

He was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Springfield to James and Zella Smith Owen.  He married Naomi Kathryn Sliger on Aug. 30, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Okla.  She died Oct. 3, 2010.

He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper.  He spent much of his career working at Willamalane Parks until his retirement.

Survivors include four sons, Jim of Port Orford, Michael of Eugene, Steven of Canyonville and Dan of Springfield; a sister, Mary Jeffers of Churchton, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Owen.
