Virginia L. White Pagel Gainesville Sun, The, April 27, 2013
A Keystone Heights woman involved in a March 30 crash that killed a child and injured several others died Friday afternoon from injuries from the crash, reported the Florida Highway Patrol. Virginia Pagel, 52, died at 1:01 p.m. Friday at Shands at the University of Florida, FHP reported in a press release. The accident happened about 6:20 a.m. on U.S. 301 just north of Alachua County Road 225 north of Waldo. For an unknown reason, Pagel was headed southbound in a northbound lane of U.S. 301 in a 2004 Honda Accord, FHP stated. A Mazda MPV with several members of a College Point, N.Y., family was northbound in the left lane. The actions of Pagel caused her car to collide head-on with the Malaves' minivan, according to FHP. Killed that day was Cristian Malave, 11. Taken to Shands with injuries were Hilda Malave, 42; Carlos Malave, 42; Alyssa Malave, 14; and Melissa Malave, 19.
