Crystal S. Richards Hansen

Post Register, August 10, 2014

Crystal Hansen

Crystal Richards Hansen, 50, of Ammon, returned to her Heavenly Father Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, after a three-year battle with cancer, surrounded by her family in her home.

She was born Oct. 12, 1963, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Walter and B. Kaye Richards.  She graduated from Manzano High School and attended University of New Mexico, pursuing a nursing degree.  While attending UNM, she married her best friend, Kerry Hansen.  They were married Oct. 1, 1983.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan temple, March 27, 1984.  She and Kerry started their family in New Mexico, and moved to Ammon in 1998 where they finished raising their six children.

While in Idaho, she became heavily involved in the Boy Scout program, where she served as a Den Leader, on the Cub Scout Committee, as an Order of the Arrow member and as a member of the commissary staff at Cedar Badge.  She attended Wood Badge and loved being a Bear.

In 2009, she realized her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, graduating from Eastern Idaho Technical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She fulfilled her dream by becoming a pediatric nurse under Dr. Christie Julian at the Blackfoot Medical Clinic, and later at the Pediatric Center in Idaho Falls.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and had a passion for sharing the gospel as a Relief Society, Primary, and Sunday school instructor.  She served in many other callings, including as Relief Society and Young Women Counselor, Primary chorister and pianist, and was a member of the choir in every ward where she lived.

The other great loves in her life were sewing, crafting, and in her earlier years, all things music, including playing the piano, singing, dancing and teaching ballet, tap and jazz.

She was a kind and loving person to all she met and was a friend to all, but above all, she loved her husband, children and especially her grandchildren.  Her fighting spirit, sense of humor that, at times, bordered on irreverence, brought smiles to all who were around her.

She was survived by her husband of 31 years, Kerry Hansen; and her children, Heather (Jared) Lyon of Idaho Falls, Jessica (Trevor) Buckley of Pocatello, Holly (Andrew) Jensen of Benton City, Wash., Jeffrey (Lauvon) Hansen of Ammon, Heath Hansen and Jared Hansen; and eight grandchildren with another on the way.  She was also survived by her mother, B. Kaye Richards; sister, AJ Richards; and grandmother, Zetta Whittaker, all of Albuquerque, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Richards; and three grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Ammon North Stake Center, 4363 E. 17th St. in Ammon.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home on Ammon Road and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday prior to the services at the church.  Burial will follow at Ammon Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at
