Vivian Louise Wallace “Ginger”
January 22, 1921 - July 20, 2014

Our wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister left this world peacefully to join her husband and our father.

Ginger was born in Merkel, Texas to Arthur and Mary Lewis.  She grew up on a ranch outside of Sweetwater, Texas.  She earned awards for women’s basketball, FFA achievements, poetry and Home Economics.

Mom married H.A. Purser and the couple had a daughter, Sharron Sue.  She later met the love of her life, Mark V. Wallace, who was stationed in Texas.  She traveled to Carlin, Nevada to marry Mark and the couple had two children, Mark Duane and Elizabeth Anne.

The family moved to Denver, Colorado for a short time while Mark earned his Epidemiology certification to become a State of Nevada Health Inspector.  The family then moved back to Elko and made Elko their permanent home.

Ginger was employed as a dispatcher and jail matron for Elko County Sheriff’s Office in the early 1950s.  She then became a payroll clerk for the Commercial Hotel for a few years.  In 1957 she returned to Law Enforcement as a Records Officer and Desk Sergeant for the Elko Police Department.  She loved her job and fellow officers.  She retired after 24 years of service with EPD.

Ginger was an active member of the Civil Air Patrol and Rebecca Eastern Star for several years.  She was a volunteer for the Domestic Violence hotline through CADV.

Ginger enjoyed camping, gardening, gourmet cooking, and having family and friends join us for fun barbeques.  She loved people and had a wonderful sense of humor.  Family came first with Mom.  She was a wonderful mother.  She enjoyed traveling on cruises and flying to other parts of the world.

Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mark and her great-grandson A.J. Frizzell.

She is survived by son Mark D. Wallace (Marilyn) Redding, CA; daughter Elizabeth A. Bogue (William) Elko, NV; daughter Sharron Sue Hodgkiss (Bob), Decatour, TX; sister Jacqueline Jobe, Oceanside, CA.  She is survived by grandson Mark W. Bogue, Elko, NV; grandson Mark A. Wallace (MJ), Redding, CA; granddaughter Emilie (Joel), Palmdale, CA; granddaughter Julie (Bruce) Maryland, Donna Williams (Ron) Amarillo, TX; Randy Frizzell (Rhonda) Hermileigh, TX; Daryl Frizzell (Vicky) Sweetwater, TX; Kevin Frizzell (Mary) Decatour, TX.  She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Ginger was a resident of Highland Manor since 2004 where she received loving care.  A special thank you to Angel, Jamie and Emilie for all of the love and care they gave to our mother.

A celebration of Life will be announced and held at a later date so we can all celebrate the life of our “Yellow Rose of Texas"
