'Mary' Joann Moring Murray

"Mary" Joann Moring Murray, 78, of Lawton, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home in Lawton.

Burial will be in Cache Cemetery.

Joann died at the Collins House, Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, Kan., from complications of Alzheimer's disease.  The eldest child of C.E. and Mary Moring, Joann was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Maysville.  She graduated from Norman High School in 1955, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1958.

Joann married John Richard Murray on Dec. 13, 1958, in Norman.  He died in 1998.  For three decades, at public schools throughout Oklahoma, Joann devoted herself to the education of young children.  She was dedicated to serving as a role model for the children she taught.  She was also a role model to many student teachers and to her children, all of whom are working in the field of education.

Joann will be greatly missed by those who survive her: her children: Deborah Murray and husband Jerry Dees, Manhattan, Kan.; John Murray and wife Maria, Columbia, Mo.; and Linda Bugni and husband Peter, Frisco, Texas; her grandchildren: Connor Bugni and Shane Bugni; her step-grandchildren: Emily Lacy and husband Tony, Lenexa, Kan.; Philip Dees and wife Becky, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Peter Dees and wife Nikki, Silver Springs, Md.; and step great-grandchildren: Nick Lacy, Jacob Dees, Julia Dees, Vivenne Dees and Emerson Dees.  Joann is also survived by one sister, Sue Houston, Cincinnati, Ohio; and three brothers: Darrell Moring, Purcell; Bob Moring, Norman; and Doug Moring, Lee's Summit, Mo.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at the funeral home.

Joann was committed to children and literacy.  Memorial contributions may be made to Lawton Public Library, Lawton, the donor's local public library, or the Tipton Children's Home, 1000 N Broadway Ave., Tipton 73570.
