Donna L. Tubbs Owens1

World Newspaper, The, 21 Feb 2015

Donna L. Owens
Nov. 21, 1939 - Feb. 14, 2015

Donna was born to Donald and Lucille Tubbs in Bell, Calif., in 1939.  She graduated from Pacific High School in San Bernardino, California in 1957.  She married Jimmie Lee Owens Dec. 28, 1962 and together they had four children.

Donna is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jim; son, James and Virginia of Harrisburg, with their children, Tyler and Kayla; son, Dave and Tina of Eugene, with their sons, Jacob and Andrew; son, John and Kimberly of Harrisburg, with their sons, Cameron and Antonio; daughter, Dena and Sean Wells of Sheridan, Wyo., with their children, Olivia and Owen; and her brother, Richard Tubbs and his wife, Willow, of Sacramento, Calif., and their children, Stephen and Karen.

Donna was such an integral part in the life of her family and community, it is hard to know how to speak of her life without the risk of leaving something out.  Donna deeply loved the people of Port Orford, where she and Jim have lived the last 45 years.  Donna started working for the 2-CJ School District in 1970-71 as a playground aide.  She also worked as a preschool aide and high school library aide, retiring in 1996.

Donna volunteered in many ways over the years.  She was a 4-H leader and taught many youth (as well as her own children) how to cook, sew and iron.  She drove countless carpools and participated in many rowdy road trips.  She kept her children busy in various activities, including Royal Rangers, youth group, and 4-H.  She was very supportive in her children's activities, keeping them engaged, expanding their horizons, while working full time.  She taught them all to love the Lord and led by example, encouraging them to be active in their local churches and youth groups.

Donna's love for her family, church family, quilting, and Christmas bazaars was seen throughout her life.  You’ve either tasted one of her famous potluck dishes: barbecue meatballs, grape/broccoli salad, tuna fish sandwiches or her frosted brownies; or you've received a handmade graduation pillowcase, wedding quilt, or shopped at the Owens' Family Christmas Bazaar.

Donna lived her life in a spirit of humility, integrity, inner strength and perseverance.  In the end, even through all her health struggles and challenges, she still managed to attend Parent/Grandparent's Days, concerts, track meets, baseball games, basketball games, and football games to support her grandchildren, just as she had done for her children.

Her family is incredibly grateful for her life of love and devotion and will go on cherishing her memory and legacy for years to come. She is truly missed!

Arrangements are under the direction of Westrum Funeral Service, Bandon, 541-347-2907
