4, 1940 - Oct. 26, 2015 EDMOND Gary Boyd Reid, 75, passed away on October
26, 2015 in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on
March 4, 1940 to S. Boyd and Thelma Reid. He graduated from Guthrie
High School in 1959 and from Oklahoma State University in 1964, where he
played third base for the Cowboys from 1961-1963. Gary entered the
U.S. Navy upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode
Island in 1964 and rose to the rank of Captain of the U.S. Naval Reserves
before retiring from the Reserves in 1995. In 1998, Gary was
inducted into the Guthrie High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his
outstanding athletic achievements in football, baseball, basketball and
track. After a long career as an accountant, Gary retired from OCT
Equipment in 2005 to play golf and spend time with his grandsons. In
his retirement, Gary loved to play golf and drink coffee with his buddies
from Kickingbird Golf Course. Gary loved NASCAR and to celebrate his
retirement, his daughter took him to "Speed Week" in Daytona, Florida for
the 50th running of the Daytona 500 in February 2008. Gary also
loved to attend any and all OSU sporting events in Stillwater with his
daughter's family every chance he could get, especially OSU football,
baseball, basketball, wrestling, golf and women's tennis. Gary was
preceded in death by his father, Boyd Reid. He is survived by his
mother, Thelma Reid of Edmond, daughter Jennifer Grigsby and her husband,
Steve Grigsby of Edmond; son, Russell Reid of Oklahoma City; and
grandsons, Reid and Jack Grigsby and Jared Kerr and his wife Alicin.
A memorial service will be held at Henderson Hills Baptist Church at
3:00pm on Thursday, October 29, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made in Gary's name to the Gary B. Reid Endowed Baseball
Scholarship at the Oklahoma State University Foundation at
www.osugiving.org or 400 S.
