Bobby R. Hamilton Crosby

The Plain Dealer, Sept. 23 to Sept. 25, 2016

BOBBY RUTH HAMILTON CROSBY
1925 - 2016 Obituary

passed away on September 11, 2016 at The Crossings at Bon Air, an assisted living facility in Richmond, Virginia.  She was born in Dorchester, Texas on September 9, 1925 and grew up in Dorchester, Sherman and Denton, Texas.  Beloved wife of Rear Admiral Philip Crosby, SC, U.S. Navy who predeceased her, Mrs. Crosby attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas prior to their marriage on June 9, 1944 at the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel.  Thereafter they traveled the world together during Admiral Crosby's thirty four year Navy career after graduating from the Naval Academy.  During these years they both served their country with great dedication and distinction.  As was always quickly noted and acknowledged by Admiral Crosby, the sacrifice of a military family can never be underestimated and his professional success and the love and closeness of the Crosby family would never have taken place without Mrs. Crosby's love, efforts and support.  After a Navy career that took the Crosbys from Annapolis, MD, through Cambridge, MA, Brooklyn, NY, Norfolk, VA, Honolulu, HI, Kingsville, TX, Washington, DC on multiple occasions, Philadelphia, PA, Subic Bay in the Philippines and other duty stations, Admiral Crosby retired from the Navy, and the Crosbys returned to North Texas and settled in Dallas.  Again, Mrs. Crosby's love and support were essential as Admiral Crosby attended law school at Southern Methodist University, passed the Texas bar and practiced law for fifteen years.  Mrs. Crosby, as always, was the devoted spouse who kept watch over home and family.  After Admiral Crosby's retirement from practicing law in 1999 he suffered a stroke and Mrs. Crosby's efforts showed a living example of tremendous love and never ending support.  In 2003 shortly after their 59th wedding anniversary, Admiral Crosby passed away.  In 2009, Mrs. Crosby relocated to Richmond, Virginia to be near her oldest son John, his wife Krisanne and their sons.  It also resulted in her being in closer proximity to her younger son Jim, his wife Cindy and their daughters.  Mrs. Crosby leaves a strong and admired legacy of support of country, faith and family.  Her lifelong devotion to and love for her husband, Philip, has been an inspiration to many and began with their first date in Sherman, Texas when she was fourteen years old.  Her dedicated membership at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas began with the Crosbys' relocation back to North Texas in 1979 and continued until her passing.  Mrs. Crosby was predeceased by her father Robert Lee Hamilton, mother Mary Alta (Clark) Hamilton, brothers Robert Clark Hamilton and Hugh Dale Hamilton, her husband Philip Crosby and her son John Hamilton Crosby (Krisanne).  She is survived by her son James Philip Crosby (Cynthia) of Shaker Heights, Ohio; grandchildren Grace Crosby Mawhorter (Michael) of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and Claire Lynn Crosby of Shaker Heights, Ohio; daughter-in-law Krisanne Warner Crosby (John) of Richmond, Virginia; grandson John Warner Crosby (Carrie) of Summerville, South Carolina and great grandchildren Chase, Elle and Blake; grandson Bradford Alan Crosby (KerriAnn) of Chesapeake, Virginia and great grandchildren William and Genevieve.  Burial will take place at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery together with the burial of Admiral Crosby after disinterment from the Dallas Forth Worth National Cemetery.  Contributions may be made in Mrs. Crosby's memory to Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225 or to the American Heart Association 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231.
