He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy; his two sons, Mike Smith and Billy Smith; and by his siblings, Marvin Smith and Doris Davis.  At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army and served his country honorably until his retirement from the 3457th Army Reserve Center as Master Staff Sergeant.  During his time as a soldier for the Army he fought in the Korean War, spent time in Germany, and served on the home front.  After he retired he continued to serve the military as an officer of the Disabled American Veterans in Pasadena, TX.  Throughout his life of service he has had many interesting hobbies and achievements.  Oscar has always been well known for writing songs or poetry, his story telling, and his kind heart.  In life he believed in the service of others by helping the blind, working with the disabled veterans, and serving his country.  Oscar loved his country.  He always said that without having a great wife by his side it would have been difficult.  His main goal was to always be there for his family.

He is survived by his daughter Rhonda Pena and son-in-law Tony Pena; by his four granddaughters, Tabitha Pena, Priscilla Jacobs, Sarah Pena, and Bianca Pena; as well as his three great-grandsons, Dylan, Deacon, and Corvin; his great-granddaughter, McKenzee, and numerous nephews, nieces, and other family and friends.
