Alfred "Bubs" Allen
May 27, 1922 - February 23, 2017

Alfred "Bubs" Allen, of O'Donnell, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at the age of 94.  He was born at his home in O'Donnell in the Wells Community on May 27, 1922 to Walter Glenn and Fleta Eppie (Randle) Allen.  He graduated from O'Donnell High School in 1939, and went on to attend Texas Tech for a year before being drafted into the Army Air Corps.  After returning home from World War II, he farmed for more than 70 years.  On April 21, 1946, he married Katie Burkett, who preceded him in death on February 12, 2007.

For years, Bubs was best known as an amateur radio operator, call sign KJ5Z.  In 2010 Bubs participated in the Texas South Plains Honor Flight for our veterans.  He was a member of the O'Donnell Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Walter Glenn Allen, Jr., and Orin Randle.

He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Bayer and husband John of Wills Point and Pamela Simpson and husband Randy of Brownfield; son, Randy Allen and wife Paula of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Homes in O'Donnell.  Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the O'Donnell Church of Christ, with interment to follow at the O'Donnell Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the Texas South Plains Honor Flight or O'Donnell Church of Christ.
