Services Held For Former Freeporter

Funeral services were held in Houston Sunday for John E. Huckaby, 35, of 7312 Lamar, formerly of Freeport, who died Saturday in a Houston hospital.  From Freeport, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Caldwell and family, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Curtsinger and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barnard attended the services.

Mr. Huckaby died of injuries received the preceding Sunday, when he fell from the roof of a house he was constructing at Almeda, breaking his neck.

The fatally injured man, an employee of the Houston Pipe Line company; lived in Freeport for a number of years until the summer of 1935, when he was transferred to Houston.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jo Fay Huckaby; a stepdaughter, Miss Laurell Huckaby of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Francis J. White of Wasco, Cal,; three brothers, Arthur and Bill of Taft, Cal., and George Huckaby of McKitrick, Cal.

Rev. M. L. Rhodes officiated at the services, which were held in the chapel of the Perry-Foley Funeral Home.  Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, active pallbearers being W.. E. Meyers, John Caldwell, Carl Witt, R. D. Parker, Frank Woods, T. P. Irving, G. H. Parker and Erwin Rather.
