Burkett Family Cousins

We hope you celebrated a joyful and meaningful Christmas.  May you find the New Year to be happy and prosperous! 

We have hit a milestone -- We have now identified over 15,000 descendants and spouses, about  1,300 more than reported in June, six months ago.   Major updates and additions to the site are identified below.

Home Page Revised

The home page has been revised to simplify it.  Links to family groups and links to other features have been removed and placed on new pages.  Links to the latest features can now be found on the home page.

Family Group Updates

Nearly all of the eleven family groups have been updated or rebuilt since June with many manual  updates added to bring the information more current.  Several of the groups are scheduled to be rebuilt in the near future because of the number of manual updates that have been added.

Military Service Updates

More than fifty names have been added to this Military Service Page in the last month.  Many names were identified in the process of preparing the new Find A Grave Index (A new feature -- see below).  Check to see if your ancestors are now on the list.

New Features Added

Several new features have been added. Clicking on the links below will take you to these pages on the web site.  They include the following:

+ Combined Surname Index

The individual surname indexes from each of the family groups have been combined into one index.  This will somewhat simplify searches when one does not know which family their ancestors or relatives may be located.

+ Find A Grave Index

This page is an index to Find A Grave memorials for nearly 1,600 Burkett Family members.  The Find A Grave memorials contain a wealth of information.  While some memorials contain only limited information, others contain photos of the grave stones and/or the individuals, obituaries and links to other family members.  This page is definitely recommended for all who visit the site.

+ Historic Records

Copies of original records such as birth, death, marriage and other records can be found here.  At the moment, the data has been limited to the first three generations of the family though information on the fourth generation is being collected and will be added in the future.  If any of you have copies of any such documents that we don’t show we would gladly add them to the site if you would send them to us.

+ National Cemeteries

This page contains a listing of Burkett family members who have been buried in either a National Cemetery (such as the Arlington National Cemetery) or a State Veteran's Cemetery.

+ Site Updates

Copies of messages such as this one have been added to allow visitors an idea of how the site has grown and been modified.
 

Other updates

Nearly every other page on the web site has been updated with some new information as well.  You will need to check out these pages to see what the additions have been.  The Links index shows the latest dates each section has been modified or revised.  You are highly encouraged to visit the Family News page regularly as it is modified often and may contain information of particular interest.  

Family Reunions:   So far we have the schedule for one Family Reunion in 2015.  Planners of reunions for other branches of the Burkett Family should let us know the date and locationof their reunion soon so we can post the information on the site.
