Burkett Family Cousins

This is to inform you about the latest updates to the Burkett Family Web Site.  We have now identified over 13,700 descendants and spouses, about 1,500 more than that reported in December, six months ago. 

It is also to let you know that we are currently experiencing difficulties with updating the site.  We can add or revise some individual pages but it is way to difficult to update the family groups or modify some of the obituaries.  As we work our way through these trying times you may find some broken links and not be able to find the page you are searching for.

Memorial Day

This past Memorial  Day and the recent 70th anniversary of D-Day can be celebrated by visiting our Military Service Page, our Obituaries Archives Search Page and/or our Cemeteries Page.    This is a great way to honor those who have passed before us and those who have served to make this county what it is today.

Family Group Updates

Four of the eleven family groups have been updated or rebuilt since December and ten of the eleven family groups have had manual updates added to bring the information current. More family groups have been updated but at the moment they cannot be added to the site

New Features Added

A couple of new features have been added. Clicking on the links below will take you to these pages on the web site.  They include the following:

 Obituary Name Search
This page was added help people find obituaries more easily.  Before this page was added one had to guess at the year and search for their ancestor.  With the new page one can search by year or by name to find one of our archived obituaries.

Cemeteries
This page was added to list those who are buried in National Cemeteries or State Veteran's Cemeteries.  We find that our Burkett Family members are located in 27 National Cemeteries and 5 State Veteran's Cemetery located in 17 different states throughout the country from coast to coast and from border to border.  You may find a visit to this page interesting. 

 Two Features Removed

A couple of old features have been removed.  They include the following:

Who Am I?
This page had been added to see if we could get people involved in guessing the identity of people from old photos.  After several months, no one haf made any kind of guess so this page has been removed for lack of interest.  For what it is worth, the photo was of Oliver Webb as a young child. 

Counter
The counter on the first page has been removed.  We were never quite sure what it represented and in the process of trying to get the site working properly the counter reset to zero and no longer represented anything.  Therfore the counter was deleted from the site.

Other updates

Nearly every other page on the web site has been updated with some new information as well.  You will need to check out these pages to see what the additions have been.

Family Reunions

We now have information on two reunions planned for this summer.  The first is the Burkett Family Reunion planned for June 21 in Hazel Green, Alabama.  You can email Debbie Howard for more information.  The second is the Murray Family reunion to be held in Fredericksburg, Texas on July 10-12.  You can email Jerry Murray for more information on this reunion.  We also hope that some of you who attend these reunions will give us a small report with photos after the event. 

Please check your families' listings to make sure they are correct.  Tell us about new births, marriages and other accomplishments.  If you can help fill in some of the blanks it would be greatly appreciated.

Please tell your Burkett descendant relatives (children, brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews and etc.) about our site.  They may want to help keep the site up to date.
